New Century Chamber Orchestra kicks off its new, yearlong season with the return of jazz musicians Marcus Roberts Trio, back by popular demand for another electric collaboration. Following a sold-out concert with New Century in 2019, the award-winning jazz combo circles back to the Bay to team up for a fresh take on the music of Duke Ellington and George Gershwin. Roberts, who has been called “the genius of the modern piano,” is known for his ability to blend the jazz and classical idioms into something wholly new. Blind since childhood, Roberts is renowned for his unique approach to jazz trio performance, which relies on all musicians sharing equally in shaping the direction of the music through a system of musical cues and flexible forms. They will perform throughout the Bay Area including in Mountain View. They will perform Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, Mountain View.
